Common misconceptions about tile adhesives

Myth 1: Tile adhesive is glue

In fact, tile glue is not glue, its main component is still cement. It is formulated from high quality cement, graded quartz sand and a variety of polymers, and is a safe and environmentally friendly product that does not contain formaldehyde, benzene and other harmful substances. To reduce household pollution, tile adhesive is a good choice.

Myth 2: tile adhesive mixed with cement and mortar inside

Some people add to the problem by mixing cement in the tile adhesive, which seems to increase the amount of material to pick up a bargain, but in fact produces a big loss! The reason for this is that tile adhesive relies on the intermolecular forces generated by the special additives in the product to hold the tiles firmly in place. The random addition of cement will change the formula of the product, which will reduce the bonding force and cannot guarantee the quality of the product.

Myth 3: use too long, add new glue mix again

Some masters will leave the tile adhesive last night, the next morning and then add water and tile adhesive powder for mixing, in fact, the active ingredients of tile adhesive has been a chemical reaction, add water only to change the performance of the operation, will lead to a lack of bonding strength later. Tile adhesive should be stirred with the use of time control within 2 hours, dry solid should be discarded.

Myth 4: one-time scraping glue area is too large

Outdoor dry, windy weather, cloth glue batch scraping area is too large, the construction is too late to cause the surface to dry solid and then tile will cause the tiles. Use a toothed scraper to evenly scrape the glue on the work surface, each construction within about 1 square, outdoor dry weather should be pre-wetted wall surface.

Myth 5: not through the leveling treatment directly tile paste

The low strength of the base and the presence of oil will directly affect the bonding power of the tile adhesive, resulting in hollow drums and falling tiles. The wall surface is not strong and the substrate is easy to delaminate and fall off. The wall surface is not flat, the defect is too big to lead to the contact between the tile and the wall surface is not in place, easy to cause hollow drum.

Myth 6: Caulking with tile adhesive

Tile adhesive and caulking are both building materials accessories, but tile adhesive can only be used to paste the back of the tile. If you use tile adhesive to caulk the seams, it just blocks the contraction joints of the floor tiles, causing the floor tiles to be heated and arched, easy to hollow and fall off. Therefore caulking should be done with a special caulk or seam sealer.
